Recent Fishing Reports

Winter fishing in the Florida Keys revolves around both weather conditions and the location of the
gulfsteam current. In February Key West is experiencing warmer than normal water temperatures combined with the close proximity of the gullfsteam current. As a result we are seeing some nice
catches of Mahi along with wahoo, and sailfish. Cooler water temperatures bring in the Blackfin
tuna, and while warmer water delayed their arrival it appears they are beginning to show in good
numbers as of last week. Darrel Zimmerman had three great days of fishing aboard the charterboat
Outer Limits this week. His first day started out with a bang landing a 45lb. wahoo , 14 gaffer mahi along with four fat blackfin tunas in the twenty pound class. On day two Darrel and his wife opted
for live bait sailfishing and both were rewarded with a pair of full grown sails on twenty pound spin
tackle along with an assortment of king and cero mackerel. Day three, Darrel again released a big
sail along with five king mackerel and four blacktip sharks all on twenty pound tackle.
In March anglers heading to Key West Florida should expect good action offshore with Blackfin tuna as water temperatures continue to fall. Anglers willing to put their time into live
bait sailfishing will be rewarded with two to four shots at sailfish daily. Deep water wrecks are
holding an assortment of jacks along with the occasional grouper and snapper.
