Ample Flats Fishing In July

The light tackle angling around Key West has remained extremely active in July. Although deep sea fishing has not yet picked up, there are ample inshore fishing opportunities to satisfy the most veteran anglers. The highlight of this season has been the Mangrove Snapper spawn. Our charter captains have been guiding groups south to the Atlantic reef to nab their limit using cut bait.

Another popular light tackle quarry for Key West anglers is Tarpon. This fantastic fighting fish can tip the scales at more than 135 lbs. If you haven't been Tarpon fishing in Key West Harbor, you should plan a trip down to fish with our experienced captains this summer, because these monsters never disappoint and always put up a great fight.

In addition to the reefs, saltwater flats, and harbor, the numerous shipwrecks in the area offer excellent spots for light tackle fishing. You can catch some great game-fish like varieties of Snapper as well as Grouper at these submerged wrecks, but the large Amberjack have been especially active lately.

We look forward to seeing you in Key West,

Capt. Chris Garcia
